Zhang Chongqing, born in 1931, is a native of Shandong province. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, in 1951 and became a professor at the Central Drama Institute, Beijing. He is a council member of the Chinese Oil Painting Society, and a member of the Art and Literature Committee of the Chinese Oil
Painting Professors' Association. Zhang Chongqing's paintings have been exhibited in numerous Chinese National Art Exhibitions throughout the 1980's and 1990's. He won the Excellent Work Prize and the Beijing City Honorary Prize at the Sixth Chinese National Art Exhibition, 1984. He also won the Excellent Work Prize at the Eighth Chinese National Art Exhibition in 1994. His paintings are in the collection of the National Art Museum of China and he has had two monographs published on his work.
