Internationally Acclaimed Master of Painting and Artist Represented in The Hefner Collection, Wu Guanzhong Donates 33 Works to the Hong Kong Museum of Art
By Metra Taleghanifard
Artist Wu Guanzhong has generously donated 33 artworks to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. These artworks include 12 oil paintings and 21 ink paintings done between 2005 and 2009. This follows other donations by Guanzhong made in 2008. Over 100 works were given to the Singapore Art Museum in late 2008, making it the highest donation in value to ever be received by a museum in Singapore. Earlier that same year the Shanghai Art Museum proudly accepted an offering of 66 works by the artist, some of which had never been seen by the public. This latest contribution will become a significant permanent collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. To honor the artist's generous gift, the museum staged a thematic exhibition on March 26, 2010 entitled Lofty Integrity. The exhibition, which closes on April 7, 2010, includes these recently acquired works along with the museum's existing collection by the artist. Several of the oil paintings are said to have been inspired by Guanzhong's earlier ink works such as The Farthest Corner of the World (upper right) and Mending Nets (lower right). Wu Guanzhong's Market Place in Shaoxing, Hometown of Lu Xun, Red Lotus, Sketch in Quingdao, House in Shao-Hsin, and By the Lake are owned by The Hefner Collection.
