    About this work

In “Reminiscences of the Mountain Village”, the sense of isolation that is a part of life in a mountain village is conveyed by Guo Chunming in a straightforward, unemotional way, although the title suggests that this scene may be from the artist’s own life experiences. The power of the composition lies in the contrast it presents not only between the planes of light and shadow falling on earth and water, but in the obvious contrast between the size of the sole human figure, a young child, and the ox upon which she sits.
